Hilton Head Public Service District (PSD) experienced a sanitary sewer overflow of approximately 50,000 gal. on Wednesday evening (August 9, 2023) on Annabella Lane in Hilton Head Plantation.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has been notified.
The overflow was primarily contained on site in an easement area. However, a minimum amount of wastewater entered a stormwater catch basin in the street. The catch basin flows into the lagoon system in Hilton Head Plantation. The overflow was stopped with a temporary repair completed by 1 a.m. Thursday, August 10.
The PSD will be working on site during the overnight hours of Thursday, August 10, into early-morning hours of Friday, August 11, to make a permanent repair. There will be no interruption to customers’ water or sewer services during this time.
The overflow was caused by a boring contractor hitting a sewer force main that had been marked.
