Hilton Head Public Service District (PSD) General Manager Pete Nardi has been named Chair of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Water Conservation Division and appointed to the AWWA’s Technical Education Council. Nardi has been an AWWA Trustee since 2022.
The AWWA is an international, nonprofit, scientific and educational society dedicated to providing total water solutions assuring the effective management of water. Founded in 1881, it is the largest organization of water supply professionals in the world. Its membership includes over 4,300 utilities that supply roughly 80 percent of the nation’s drinking water and treat almost half of the nation’s wastewater.
“I’m excited to continue volunteering with the Water Conservation Division and AWWA,” said Nardi. “It’s an honor to help lead so many outstanding water professionals across our country who are promoting water conservation and efficiency, advancing the science of water use and efficiency, and most importantly working to preserve and protect their communities most precious resource – water.”
The Water Conservation Division works to increase understanding and practical implementation of water efficiency within the water sector and all groups of water users. It develops technical programs for conferences, creates and revises manuals and handbooks, and develops policy and position statements. The Technical Education Council focuses on providing technical and educational resources for effective water management, with the goal of advancing AWWA activities related to design, construction, operation, and management of utilities that provide water, wastewater, recycled water, and stormwater services.
Hilton Head PSD is the public water, wastewater, and recycled water utility serving more than 24,000 customers in the north- and mid-island areas of Hilton Head Island. Nardi has worked for the PSD since 2004 and has served as General Manager since 2015.
