Hilton Head Public Service District (PSD) is the water, wastewater treatment and recycled water utility serving the north- and mid-island areas of Hilton Head Island, SC. The PSD provides water from multiple sources and treats water in a state-of-the-art Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Treatment Facility. Hilton Head PSD’s Aquifer Storage & Recovery (ASR) Facility banks treated water in the winter months of lesser demand and less expensive water rates from our wholesale provider. The ASR Facility then withdraws and retreats the water for distribution in the summer months of greater demand and more expensive rates from our wholesale water provider. The PSD has developed alternative water sources and supplies in response to saltwater intrusion into the freshwater wells that were the traditional source of water on Hilton Head Island.
The PSD is a special purpose district created by the South Carolina General Assembly in 1969. It is governed by an elected Board of Commissioners that normally meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month in the PSD Community Room in our Water Resource Center at 21 Oak Park Drive off Mathews Drive.
